My name is Tracey Stephens. My first 3 years in education started in Norwalk Iowa. I have been working for the DMPS starting the school year 2003-2004 as a Special Ed behavior paraeducator, switching to Office Manager in April 2017. I find great joy and satisfaction working for the families and staff of Jackson Elementary.

I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a teacher and once I started working with DMPS I knew that this was where I wanted to stay. Family engagement includes all of the ways we, as staff and as families with preschoolers, work and play together in preparing children for success in school and life. I am here to support family, staff and classroom activities–meeting needs and providing information, comfort and opportunities.

I went to Lincoln, and then Iowa State University, where I received my BA in English Education. I did my student teaching here at Brody and this is my second year officially working in the school as a special education teacher. Before this I was also a substitute for DMPS, so I have been all over the district.

In addition to all of my professional roles at the Downtown School and with DMPS, I am a UNI Panther. I completed my masters in administration the summer of 2018 with University of Northern Iowa as a part of their Urban Education Principalship Network.

My name is Nichlos Garrison and this will be my 2nd year here at Perkins Elementary! My journey with Des Moines Public Schools started in 2018 when I was working for Metro Kids at Jefferson and Howe Elementary, both on the Southside of Des Moines. I left the district early 2019, missed working with kids and returned late 2019 to Perkins. I started teaching in 2003 then joined DMPS in 2012, I have 5 boys, 2 cats, and 2 dogs.
